The Yorkshire Terrier puppy is a dog born from the mix of English and Scottish terriers. As a result, this puppy has characteristics of both breeds. It’s a furry, mustached dog that doesn’t exceed 22 cm in height or 3.5 kg in weight, making it an ideal pet for families and people living in apartments or small homes.

It’s also a tenacious and courageous animal. It doesn’t back down easily. Additionally, it enjoys spending time with people and feels great affection toward them. Yorkie puppies are always active and find ways to play and seek attention. They enjoy movement and constant exercise due to their restless nature. On the other hand, they excel as watchdogs, as they bark a lot when they sense danger.

Yorkies can differ in coat texture, size, and color, leading to several types of Yorkshire Terriers. The standard color for a Yorkie is black or dark gray for the body, with golden or tan shades on the head, chest, and legs.

Adult Yorkies with other coat colors are considered atypical, and intentional breeding of such variations should be avoided, as these colors may result from genetic mutations that could lead to health issues.

Regarding size, aside from the standard Yorkie, there is the Teacup Yorkie, which is miniature-sized. It is essential to choose breeders who do not encourage excessively small sizes or practice selective breeding to achieve diminutive dimensions, as this can negatively affect the puppy’s health.

However, it is common for some puppies within a litter to be naturally smaller than their siblings. In such cases, they may be classified as Teacup or Mini Yorkies.

What colors a Yorkshire Terrier can have

The colors of the Yorkie accepted as official are only four combinations: black and brown; black and gold; blue and gold; and finally blue and brown. If other color combinations are found, they cannot be considered a pure specimen.

Nevertheless, you can find mongrels in gold; white and brown; white and gold; black and fire red; brown and fire red; and solid black. Finally we have the “marked or merle” shade, which is the name given to any of the above color combinations with mottled patches of color that generate spots on the coat. The tricolor Yorkshire is another color that has gained popularity. Also known as the Biewer terrier, this type comes from Germany and is characterized by a long, silky, soft coat that falls downward.

This breed, unofficially, and although the canine federations do not recognize sub-types or sizes in this breed, breeders and people who demand these puppies, have been attributing certain names to classify the sizes within the breed, these sizes are usually called; large, standard, mini, miniature or toy, and teacup or micro (for the tiniest specimens). Although in our breeding center we do not take dwarfism to the extreme in the breeding of our litters, it is true that there are some puppies smaller than others, which could be pigeonholed in these sub-sizes mentioned above.
